What is a Connect Group?
A Connect Group is a home fellowship made up of 10-16 people who meet regularly to share and support each other in applying the sermon messages to our lives. A leader couple hosts and leads discussion group.
Why do we have Connect Groups?
As a community and as a church we struggle with connection. We live far apart from each other, there are superficial points of connection which don't offer true friendship and we are all too busy with other things. Our hope and prayer is that we get 100% of our congregation involved in a connect group to "do life" with our fellow church members.
How are Connect Groups different from Sunday School classes and Grow Groups?
Connect Groups have a somewhat different purpose than Sunday School and Grow Groups. The primary goal of Connect Groups is connecting with each other and applying the sermon teaching to our lives.
- Sunday School: church-based, formal teaching and bible study fellowship, long term commitment
- Grow Groups: church and home based, organically formed, loosely organized and independent, various content and curriculum, long term commitment
- Connect Groups: home based, discussion based on sermon, semester based (easy on-off ramps), but opportunities for long term relationships
Is this a Bible study?
Unlike a traditional Bible study, Connect Groups will be more discussion focused on what you took from the sermon and supporting each other as we attempt to apply that to our lives. We anticipate that the connections formed in these groups will strengthen your relationship with each other and with God. While we will use the Bible and referenced scripture, the main goal is application of the Pastors teaching and scripture to your life.
When and Where do they meet?
Connect Groups meet on various nights of the week (typically weeknights sometime between 6-9pm or Sunday evenings) in homes of our leaders. Most groups will meet for one and a half hours. We will hope to have meetings available throughout the week to accommodate most schedules.
How long do they last?
Each Connect Group session lasts 10 weeks. We have fall and spring sessions. At the end of each session you will have the choice to stay with current group, try a new group or take a break. This easy on-off ramp encourages people to try different groups and meet new people in the church and community. Our hope and prayer is that you will develop deep and lasting relationships and stick with the group that the Lord has for you, but there are opportunities to easily switch groups to allow you to find your group.
What am I committing to?
Joining a Connect Group requires a commitment of 10 weeks and to answer the questions to be prepared for discussion.
What will we study?
Most of the discussion/study time is based on the previous Sunday's sermon message. The discussion guide will be provided by pastors to leaders and group members before the Sunday sermon to allow ample time to review.
Is Child-Care available?
The church does not offer child care services and asks each group to find a solution for care or babysitters if required.
